The SimilarWeb published a report suggesting that, among the world’s 20 most viewed sites, three are porn related. Probably, the most common suggestion to avoid malwares is to avoid porn sites. But is that true? Does it really contain virus?

If you’ve ever opened a porn site, of course you have, a lot of advertisements would have popped up. This is what carries the virus and are considered as unsafe. In 2018, the most visited porn site was PornHub with 33.5 billion hits which imply 92 million visits in a day. With such traffic in the website, do you think they’ll infect the website with malware?

Does Porn Websites contain Malware?

Everyone wants to earn money, the malware creator and the websites’ owner. Since the porn website is rapidly rising, why would they infect the user’s system with a malware? They might be getting a lot of money from paid stuff and advertisements. If they infect the user’s system with virus, their business is only going to get harmed with a drop in the popularity and traffic.

Not all porn sites contain malware. But, at the same time, since the traffic is increasing day by day in such sites, the malware creators cannot resist introducing virus in this field. What they do is, hack the advertisements and introduce malware in them. Whenever a user clicks to see the ad, their system get’s infected.

Why are they considered to be risky?

·         Services and websites with massive traffic becomes easy target of cyber-criminals. It becomes easy for the malware creator to spread their malware rapidly to millions of systems. Porn websites provide such platform with lots of traffic which provides opportunity to malware creators for easily spreading malware to numerous systems within less time. That is why porn websites become easy target of such creators. 

·         The ad serving servers of porn sites are targeted by cyber criminals who infect the pop-ups and banners. Also, there are some websites that have virus. Intentionally, they build porn sites for luring the users into the trap. But there are not much websites and are not much popular.

Dangers hidden in popular porn websites

·         YouPorn and PornHub: The next time you visit any of the websites, make sure to maintain a distance from their banners. Some of the PornHub visitors complained that their system was affected by Trojan horse while others claim they were locked by ransomware. Both of them are equally dangerous which can cost you your personal information or money.

·         Xvideos: Before visiting the website again to entertain yourself, think again. Beware with the xvideos domain, which was infecting the visitors with ransomware. According to the users who complained about it, they were misled into downloading a virus to their systems after clicking on a advertisement promoting Sex messenger.

·         Redtube: Recently, this website was infected by hackers so beware of this homepage. It can make you visit the malicious websites for spreading spyware programs, Trojan horses, keyloggers and many other viruses. Until they manage to collect optimal amount of data, they’ll hide in your computer. Additionally, they can transfer as well as give their owner access to your system.
