"Gehra Hua" is a Hindi romantic song from the 2025 Bollywood spy thriller Dhurandhar, and it became one of the most talked-about love songs of the year. The track was released by Saregama on 28 November 2025, a week ahead of the film's theatrical premiere on 5 December 2025. It arrived as the film's third single, following the Dhurandhar title track (a reimagining of the classic "Jogi") and the chart-topping "Ishq Jalakar – Karvaan".
On the credits side, the song is sung by Arijit Singh along with Armaan Khan, composed by Shashwat Sachdev (who also composed the film's entire score), and written by veteran lyricist Irshad Kamil. The music video features Ranveer Singh and Sara Arjun, whose on-screen pairing the song was built to showcase. It was released under the Saregama Music label in association with Jio Studios and B62 Studios.
The full version of the song runs about six minutes on the official soundtrack, while the audio single is around 3:51 minutes. Musically, it's a soft, soulful ballad — a deliberate contrast to the action-heavy energy of the film's other tracks. And it even includes a sargam (solfa) interlude in the middle, rendered in the G minor scale.
The film it belongs to, Dhurandhar, was written and directed by Aditya Dhar (of Uri: The Surgical Strike fame). The movie stars Ranveer Singh alongside Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal and Sara Arjun. It follows an undercover Indian intelligence agent infiltrating Karachi's criminal underworld, set against real events like the Kandahar hijacking, the 2001 Parliament attack, and 26/11 terrorist attack.
The film received mixed-to-positive critical reviews but was a phenomenal commercial success, crossing ₹550 crore worldwide in just ten days. It finished its 75-day run at roughly ₹1,354 crore globally. This makes it the highest-grossing Indian film of 2025 and the highest-grossing A-certified Indian film ever.
As for the lyrics themselves, the song is a portrait of all-consuming devotion. Lines like "Tu agar meri, yeh hawayein teri / Tu agar meri, saari rahein teri" ("if you are mine, then these breezes are yours, all my paths are yours") set the tone of total surrender. While the chorus — "Gehra hua, gehra hua, rang aashiqui gehra hua" — uses the central metaphor of love's color deepening like a river or dye growing deeper with time.
The verses draw on striking imagery, praising the beloved as "the life of a million angels" and "a beating, thieving moon," which several reviewers singled out as the song's strongest writing. Public reception was largely rapturous. Within hours of release, social media was flooded with praise for Arijit Singh's vocals. Fans called it the "best romantic song of 2025,".
Fans lauded his voice modulations from soft lows to emotional highs, and dubbed the Ranveer–Sara pairing their "new favorite duo". The song was also showcased at the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) on 28 November 2025, where Ranveer Singh made an appearance. The song reportedly received a warm response.
Commercially, it has amassed over 141 million streams on Spotify alone. And it charted on Apple Music — including reaching the top 20 in the United States. Critical opinion was more divided: Mint praised Arijit's singing as making it "a standout on the album," and a Variety India review noted that the song "gallivants into A.R. Rahman-esque territory,".
However, some critics said that the composition felt flat and that the emotional core "does not stay," despite the quality of the verses. In short, "Gehra Hua" served as the emotional heart of an otherwise brutal action film. And much of its legacy is tied to the goodwill the Dhurandhar soundtrack generated — a slow-burn romantic ballad that, whatever the critics said, clearly found its audience.
