An exquisite painting exhibition is currently being showcased at Hotel Sheraton in Saket New Delhi, and is being publicized by Question Associates. The theme of the painting exhibition is – The Colours Of Love’. The artwork has been handpicked and curated by the renowned art curator, Vikram Sethi. What catches the eye of many at this exhibit, amid other artists, is works of a gifted artist Piyush Mathur. His vibrant use of colours exploring the enigmatic transcendent nature of the cosmos is turning out to be a showstopper here.

We got a chance to interact with the artist Piyush Mathur about his journey so far. Below are excerpts from the interview:

When did you start painting? Is painting your mainstream business?

I started painting when I was a kid. I was really small but when I used to see my mother paint, I really fascinated me and since then I got an urge to paint.

I don’t take painting business-wise. I have my other business that I run but painting is a form of meditation for me. I like it when people appreciate my work and that keeps me motivated.

Who is your inspiration?

I drew my inspiration from my mother. Apart from doing MA in finance she was also a very fine artists and her commendable art even inspired me to become an artist. However, gradually I got busy with my professional life but eventually I followed my passion for art and came back to my happy place few years back.

I believe that through observation, everything becomes more alive – be it a person, an act, or the lights and shapes of nature. Finding beauty and inspiration from surroundings and people around me, I believe that being an artist means to re-create life’s hues and expressions as you see and envisage it.

How would you describe the genre of your paintings?

Working mostly on figurative and semi-abstract paintings nowadays, my palette alternates between bright and dark colors, contrasted aggressively to create masterpieces on canvas which continue to leave a lasting warmth on the walls of collectors.

Any recent awards or accolades that you won?

My painting titled "Attitude", which is also a part of this ‘Colours of Life’ exhibition, won 1st prize in the figurative category in a juried event this week in Mumbai. The event was sponsored by Camlin.

During the pandemic, how you showcased your work to the people?

During the COVID times, these art exhibitions were mainly being held online, mostly from Delhi or Mumbai. My paintings were also a part of such online exhibitions only but soon after the COVID waves started to decline, we are now exhibiting in art galleries as well. But this painting exhibition ‘The Colours of Love’ is my most sought after exhibition because it has been curated by none other than renowned Vikram Sethi.

As Delhiites spring back into normalcy, the city has begun to witness some larger-than-life exhibits. And if you are a connoisseur of art, then this one is a must see. The art exhibition started on February 26th and will continue till March 6th, 2022.
