PM Vishwakarma Yojana aims to benefit various artisans and professionals such as blacksmiths, sculptor, goldsmith, potter, cobbler, mason, barbers, tailors, etc.
In India, a large number of people work in the unorganized sector. Among these, lakhs of people are self-employed. The list includes professionals like carpenters, blacksmiths, locksmiths, sculptor, goldsmiths, potter (kumhaar), cobbler, mason (mistri), basket makers, toy makers, barber, garland makers, washerman (dhobi), tailor and fishing net maker. There are also professionals who are into making items from bronze or copper.
While there are lakhs of such self-employed professionals, they often work without any benefits such as pension or income guarantee. To help these professionals, the government has launched the PM Vishwakarma Yojana. Let's check out the details of this scheme.
Primary objectives of PM Vishwakarma Yojana
With the PM Vishwakarma Yojana, the government is aiming to provide comprehensive support to artisans and craftsmen. It starts with identifying these individuals, so that their contributions to the country's growth can be recognized. In the next step, the skills of these individuals are assessed in a professional manner. If required, the relevant training is provided.
To boost productivity of these people, modern tools are also provided. Professionals who enroll in PM Vishwakarma Yojana also get access to collateral free credit at reduced interest rates. Another key objective of PM Vishwakarma Yojana is to promote digital empowerment of these professionals. The platform also allows these individuals access to brand promotion and market linkages in order to boost their growth opportunities.
Key benefits of PM Vishwakarma Yojana
Professionals who enroll for PM Vishwakarma Yojana are provided the relevant certification and an ID card. After the skill verification process, these professionals undergo a basic training of around 40 hours, spread across 5-7 days. A grant of Rs 15,000 is provided in the form of toolkit incentive. Professionals can access collateral free enterprise development loans of Rs 1 lakh. Concessional interest rate of 5% is applicable on these loans. Initial loan amount is Rs 1 lakh, which needs to be repaid in 18 months. In the second tranche, Rs 2 lakh loan can be accessed. This needs to be repaid in 30 months.
To encourage these professionals to use digital transactions, Rs 1 per transaction is provided. This is capped for 100 transactions per month. Professionals also get support from the National Committee for Marketing (NCM). It provides services such as branding and promotion, quality certification, trade fairs advertising, e-commerce linkage and publicity.
