NEET or the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (formerly known as the All India Pre-Medical Test or AIPMT), is organized in order to assess the aspirant candidate’s eligibility to get admission into any Government or Private Medical College across the country, providing courses of MBBS and BDS.

This examination is conducted by the National Testing Agency or NTA, prior to NTA it was organized by CBSE.

A candidate who desires to study a medical course and is making preparations for NEET must have Physics, Chemistry and Biology as their compulsory subjects during their class 10, as well as 11th and 12th standards. This means that the student must belong to the Science stream. Hence, it is necessary to ensure that the candidates, who are preparing themselves to appear for NEET, must study their Higher Secondary properly and should have a better performance during their board’s examination.

The syllabus for NEET includes topics from the 11th and 12th standards, mainly those from Physics, Chemistry and Biology. The syllabus is designed in such a manner that candidates who belong from state boards, CBSE, ICSE, NIOS, COBSE boards; do not have to face many difficulties with it. Thus, it ensures that every candidate irrespective of their Boards can prepare for NEET properly and can easily assess the syllabus. Thus, for efficient preparations for NEET, it is necessary to have proper awareness regarding the syllabus. The NEET syllabus is prescribed by the Medical Council of India, which ensures to include the concepts and topics of classes 11th and 12th. Hence, it is the smartest decision to follow the textbooks which are developed by NCERT, in order to make effective and efficient preparations. The NCERT textbooks are developed according to the latest guidelines introduced by CBSE. Hence, these books are much more helpful while preparing for boards, as well as any other competitive examinations, such as NEET.

The pattern for NEET is designed in such a manner that a time limit of 3 hours is allotted for attending a question paper of total 180 marks, which is generally MCQ based. The marking pattern of NEET is such that, 3 marks is obtained for each question answered correctly, whereas a mark is deducted for each question answered wrong. Also, if a question is left un-attempted, there is no scoring or losing of any marks.

Therefore, in order to prepare effectively for the vast syllabus of NEET, the candidates must be able to grasp every concept without getting confused between them. Moreover, the candidates must have some strategies as well as a competitive mindset, which will eventually help them reach their goals.

Thus, there are certain strategies that are to be followed in order to make their preparations sufficient to become eligible for securing a seat. Some of them are:

  1. Prepare a time-table:

It is very important to have a timetable and strictly adhere to it. The timetable must be constructed in such a manner that it should balance each and every subject pretty well which are included in the syllabus. Hence, a properly established timetable will come in handy and also, a candidate’s determination is necessary in order to make the timetable actually work.

The timetable must be practical enough to be easily followed, which would properly balance all the elements such as study time, sleep, meals, exercise etc.

  1. Awareness regarding the syllabus:

The syllabus for NEET includes mostly the topics from classes 11th and 12th, which have been already studied by the candidate during their preparations for the 12th Boards examination. But, often there are some candidates who tend to skip some chapters due to having troubles with understanding or less weightage in the board's question paper. So, if a student has to highlight better performance in their NEET, they must go through all the chapters, giving importance to each and every one of them.

  1. Prepare proper notes:

The NCERT textbooks are the smartest for making effective preparations for NEET. But, up to the choice of the candidates, they can refer to some additional books also. Also, it is important to prepare notes by the candidates themselves, based upon their understanding. This practice, it will make sure that they are grasping the concepts and topics pretty well as well as making their concepts crystal clear.

  1. Revise regularly:

“Revision is the key to success”; thus it is necessary to make a revised regime as it will be very beneficial. Revisions help in making a concept crystal clear, as well as help to grasp the concept more easily. During revisions, it is often advised to focus on one’s strengths and weaknesses. Analyzing these two factors will help the candidate to elevate their performance in the areas where they are weak. Hence, for Physics; one must make sure to revise the formulas, derivations and other theorems whereas, for chemistry; it is necessary to revise the important chemical reactions, equations and mechanisms more properly.

  1. Refer to sample test papers:

During NEET, a candidate is allotted a time of 180 minutes, within which they have to attend about 180 questions, i.e. they get only a minute for answering each question. Hence, it is necessary to ensure that the candidates are able to manage their time quite properly while answering the questions. And, this can be achieved by having a practice of solving sample test papers, as well as NEET Important Questions with Solutions which are efficient to help a candidate get an idea regarding the pattern of the question, as well as get detailed answers to the example questions. Hence, it is advised to take mock tests as well as solve papers as much as possible.

Conclusion:

NEET is such an examination that has a high level of competition for a limited number of seats, thus it is necessary to have determination towards achieving the goal.

Also, NCERT textbooks are well-reputed to be of immense help to the candidates, who desire to appear for any competitive examinations. Thus, as these textbooks are prepared under the guidance of academic professionals who make sure that they provide the concepts and topics in a lucid manner, it is advised to stick with NCERT. Also, with too much mental stress while preparing, it is important to ensure good nutrients for better health. This is because a healthy body and a healthy mind are both the assets of a student.
