While it is quite easy to cancel AutoPay in Google Pay (GPay), many people are not aware of the exact process
Google Pay (GPay) is a reliable payment
app, offering various features including UPI AutoPay. However, there can be occasions
when one may want to cancel the UPI AutoPay. This can happen when the loan is
paid off or if there is a subscription that you don't want to renew. You can
cancel AutoPay in GPay for electricity bills, broadband and mobile postpaid and
recharge bills. Let's take a look at how to cancel AutoPay in GPay.
How to cancel AutoPay in GPay?
It is important to understand that apps
keep updating, which in turn can result in slight changes in the process to
cancel AutoPay in GPay. However, if you understand the basic cancellation
process, it will become easier to cancel AutoPay in GPay. First, you need to
open the Google Pay app on your phone. While it is not mandatory, it is better
to ensure that the GPay app you are using is updated to the latest version.
In the next step, you need to tap your
profile picture or initials in the top right corner. Then, you need to select
AutoPay. Go to the Live tab, which shows all active/approved mandates that can
still debit your bank account. Next, select the specific mandate or
subscription that you want to cancel. Tap on Cancel AutoPay. You may also see a
Pause AutoPay option.
This allows a temporary block on the
AutoPay. This option can be used if you want to block an AutoPay debit for a
specific time period and switch it on again after some time. Once you tap on
Cancel AutoPay, you will be asked to enter the UPI PIN. Once done, you can
check the Live tab again to verify if the mandate has been successfully
cancelled. In most cases, you will receive a confirmation message that your
AutoPay in GPay is cancelled.
Important things to consider when
cancelling AutoPay in GPay
You may have cancelled the AutoPay in GPay,
but this only stops future debits from your bank account. The subscription
itself does not get cancelled automatically, unless there is a specific policy regarding
this. If you want to cancel the service and subscription, you need to do that
via the merchant's app or website.
If you are cancelling AutoPay in GPay close
to the date of a payment already scheduled, it may still go through after
cancellation. As such, make sure you cancel AutoPay in GPay well before the
next debit date. This is ideally a few days earlier. There are certain mandates
that cannot be cancelled via GPay. These include loan and EMI-related mandates.
For cancelling these, you will have to contact the lender or merchant directly.
